Michton’s Commitment to Reduce our Impact on The Environment

Michton Ltd is the home of Bite Promotions and we are constantly reviewing and improving our environmental criteria and investing heavily in becoming a truly green company.

Our Gas and Electricity

In order to reduce our dependency on gas our factory and office is 100% heated by our biomass boilers which use wood chips made from logs that have no commercial value and would have otherwise ended up as scrap in a landfill, We even source this timber locally from sustainable forests to further lessen our environmental impact.
We have also taken steps to reduce our electrical energy consumption by replacing our old lights with LED’s and reducing the overall number of fittings. This combined with the 50kW PV system we have installed on our roof (which generates a large portion of our electricity and over summer, when we create an excess, feeds back into the grid) has helped us become a more green company.

Our Products

We understand the importance of sourcing our ingredients and packaging from ethical and eco-friendly sources.
Our main ingredient is chocolate. All our chocolate is supplied from manufacturers in the UK and Europe from large manufacturers who take their ESG (environmental, social and governance) responsibilities very seriously. They measure a large number of criteria including (but not limited to) the following areas: greenhouse gas reduction, water usage, deforestation, injuries at work, child labour, etc.
Our main source of direct packaging is cardboard. The board we use is approved to come into food material contact (FMC). All our printed cardboard that comes into contact with confectionery is sourced from mills that use FSC material. The mills are powered by renewable electricity. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified wood means that the forests have been managed in an environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable manner.Our card is also recoverable through composting and biodegradation.

Another major source of direct packaging is aluminium foil which is used to wrap our chocolates, All our foil is fully recyclable.

Our main source of outer packaging is cardboard. Where possible we reuse the shipping boxes that our ingredients arrive in. All our outer packaging is opened carefully and visually inspected. Any outer packaging which can be reused is given a second life and diverted from recycling. When we need to purchase outer packaging, we buy from companies that use FSC timber. All glues and inks that are used on the outer packaging are water based and solvent free.All our outer packaging is also fully recyclable.

Our waste:

We are constantly reviewing all the waste that our company produces and we are in contact with our suppliers about driving out any waste packaging together. All our waste is separated into 4 streams: metal, cardboard, plastic and general waste. All our metal, plastic and cardboard waste is recycled. We have reduced our general waste by 60% in the last 2 years.
